Electronic Health Record ForumWhat is an EHR? An Electronic Health Record? vxVistA is that - and more! vxVistA is a commercially successful implementation of the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) released VistA EHR from the Veterans Health Administration. vxVistA, like VistA before, is a longitudinal electronic health records system - meaning that vxVistA is meant for use in recording, organizing, and retrieving the entire health record history and experience of individuals or groups, and in providing continuity of care spanning the lifetime of the patient(s). vxVistA is also well suited to health data collection and statistical analysis and reporting for research purposes - making it an ideal selection for use by providers that have extensive reporting requirements and/or wish to (or currently) pursue research projects and grants. Through solid practices and tens of thousands of provider hours in the VA, vxVistA has been developed to serve the best practice model of modern patient care and records keeping - and in tracking long-term effects and outcomes, considerablesearch and reporting functionality has been provided via the internal DBMS of vxVistA. In this workspace, users are expected to discuss the state of EHR systems and,by comparison and analysis, to develop new ideas for improving vxVistA and creating projects in other forums for continued growth and success as a Community and as common users of the vxVistA system.
