vxBCMA or Bar Code Medication Administration, improves patient safety by requiring nursing staff who are administering drugs to scan both the patient wrist band and a bar coded label on medications that have been processed by the vxPharmacy module for the selected patient. vxBCMA checks to see that the medication, dosage, schedule and route are as ordered for this particular patient at this specific time.
The system displays full medication history logs and allergies. Nurses can view lists of drugs that need to be given soon and can log any dose that is not given for reasons such as patient refused, patient spit the pills out, etc…
A separate tool for use by pharmacists allows parameters to be set for local control over settings such as the time variance allowed for early or late doses to be given. Pharmacy and nursing work together to improve communication and patient safety using this innovative and user friendly tool.
Patients can be selected individually or viewed across a unit, ward or clinic. Graphs show changes in vitals over time and reports can be run by patient, bed, unit, ward, etc, for changes in vitals signs over a period of time, for pain score changes, and much more.
