Order dialogs connect clinicians with those providing the desired service to the patient. To make order dialogs function you must evaluate the process that makes things happen. Software should adapt to the clinical process, not the other way around. Connecting the dots among those involved in an Order Dialog is both a challenge and an opportunity. Often the process is ill defined, variable, or non-existent. The phrase “That is the way we have always done it.” unfurls the red flags that there is danger ahead.
